tips to make your move less stressful

Moving can be a bit hectic and stressful, don’t ya think? I know I always get a little stressed out prior to moving even though I feel like I’m a seasoned pro now. In my 24 years of life, I have done my fair share of moving so today I am here to share 6 tips to make your move less stressful and more streamlined.

6 Tips to Make Your Move Less Stressful

Before the Move:

Declutter // Prior to every move, I try to downsize and get rid of anything that I haven’t used in a long time so that I’m not just bringing more junk into my new place.

Start packing well in advance // As someone who procrastinates a ton, this is something I’m not very good at but should definitely be done! I feel like starting to pack at least two weeks in advance will leave you feeling less stressed leading up to the big move.

Thoroughly clean your old place once everything is out // As y’all probably know, apartment complexes are quick to take back your deposit or even charge you extra if you don’t make the place almost spotless before turning in your key. To avoid this, run a vacuum over the carpeted surfaces and use a Swiffer ® WetJet to clean up your tile in your kitchen and bathroom – or the whole place if you have no carpet. Basically, just deep clean the whole place to ensure that you get your deposit back at the end of the day.

After You Move:

Wash linens or dirty clothes you may have accumulated// Once I get all my stuff into the new place, the first thing I do is locate my sheets and towels and give them a good wash with Tide ® PODS ® to ensure that they’re extra clean so I can have fresh linens for a new place.

Stock up on the goods // Usually when I know I’m going to be moving soon, I refrain from buying a lot from the grocery store so I have even less to lug to the new place if I can help it. So after I throw my linens in the wash, I head to the store to get the essentials like Bounty ® Select-a- Size and Charmin ® Ultra Strong among other things. We also typically grab groceries too since moving with groceries that need to be refrigerated is kind of a pain.

Spruce up the new place // I don’t know about you, but whenever I move into a new place, I like to make it feel like home immediately. When beginning to unpack, I usually spritz some Unstopables™ Air Refresher to make the place feel a little more like home…and it also takes away any weird smells that the apartment may have accumulated from the previous tenants. When we moved into an apartment back in 2014, when we walked it, it immediately smelled like dogs so ever since then I’ve kept some air refresher handy.
