Staying Organized as a Blogger

September 17, 2015

Most people don’t realize exactly how much time it takes to run a blog. From thinking of post ideas, taking photos, actually writing the posts, editing both photos and your blog posts, scheduling social media posts, and engaging with your readers, there is a lot to do as a blogger especially since most of us have other obligations such as school, work, and also attempting to juggle a social life. I currently am starting grad school and a new job, planning a wedding, and trying to squeeze blogging into any free time that I have because this blog has become my happy place. Thus this brings us to how to go about staying organized as a blogger.

Staying Organized as a Blogger

Staying Organized as a Blogger

1. Use a separate blogging planner // My blogging planner contains everything that I need to accomplish each day for my blog. From specific posts going up, social media posts to schedule, sponsored campaign deadlines, etc., it’s all in one place.
2. Use a blogging notebook // I jot down any ideas that I may have regarding future post ideas whether its outfit ideas or other random posts idea.
3. Schedule posts in Hootsuite // I can’t tell you how much I adore Hootsuite. If it didn’t exist, I would definitely forget to promote my blog posts on a daily basis. I use this scheduling tool so that I can get my content out there at peak times and have more time to engage with my readers.

4. Use a blogging binder // While my blogging planner and blogging notebook contain pretty much everything I can ever need, my blog binder hashes out all the nitty gritty details such as an expenses and income tracker, monthly blogging goals, usernames & passwords sheet, etc. I also have digital files of these but I like to keep track of everything on paper as well incase the digital world fails on me.

5. Make an editorial calendar // Because I am so busy, I make an editorial calendar each month to keep my blog posts more organized. I use Google Calendar for my digital editorial calendar and then my paper blogging planner once I officially have decided on posts for the month. First I start out by putting any seasonal posts on the calendar, and then my consistent monthly series posts that I always do and then from there I fill in the blanks with any other ideas.

6. Keeping a running to-do list for each day’s blogging tasks // I am kind of obsessed with making to-do lists so I have a lot of them. I have my master to do-list for each day of things I need to get done each day and week and then I have separate to-do lists for blogging, work, and general life upkeep.

All of these organizational things keep me sane as a blogger with both a full time job and grad school coursework and I am glad to have found a method that works for me.
