Sorority Recruitment Tips

August 7, 2015

Sorority Recruitment Tips
As some of you may know, I was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi throughout my collegiate years. I held a few different positions within my chapter, my favorites being VP of Academics and T-shirt chair. I’m definitely not a sorority expert by any means, but after 3 years of “being on the other side” of the recruitment process, I would say that I am pretty knowledgable on recruitment and what you should and shouldn’t do during the crazy yet exciting week. Now time for some handy sorority recruitment tips.

Sorority Recruitment Tips

Tip 1: Be Yourself
I can’t stress this one enough and I know it’s on everyone else’s lists as well. Seriously though, if you are yourself during rounds you will find your home a lot more easily. I know it can be nerve wracking but you will definitely regret it if you put on a fake persona to impress the sorority members.
Tip 2: Keep an open mind & stay positive
I know you may go in with your heart completely set on one certain chapter but please if possible try to refrain from doing this. I saw so many girls leave recruitment in tears because they were set on one chapter and didn’t end up getting invited back to that house. Try to embrace other options even if it wasn’t your initial first choice, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Tip 3: Avoid talking about the 3 B’s.
I know this sounds funny, but during my sorority recruitment process, they told us to avoid speaking about 3 things: boys, Barack, and booze. There’s no need for that kind of talk during recruitment. Political views are definitely a controversial topic and have absolutely no place during rounds. Same with talking about booze and boys. Leave that for a later date.

Tip 4: Trust the system
I get it, it’s scary to trust a ranking system and it may not seem like its going to work out for the best..but 95% of the time, it truly works. If you get dropped from a house you were in love with, don’t fret. There’s a better fit for you elsewhere.
Tip 5: Be Well Dressed
Of course, you want to stand out in a good way so be sure to look your best and let your personality shine through as well. It definitely isn’t all about looks or designer brands, but you don’t want to look sloppy either.
I definitely have some more tips up my sleeve but I decided to choose the 5 ones that I figured were the most important. Do you have any sorority recruitment tips?
Let me know if there’s anything crucial that I missed down in the comments.
