As a lot of you already know, in 2017 I embarked on a new journey of full-time entrepreneurship. While it was pretty dang scary at first, I’m beyond thrilled that I took that leap of faith. Today I’ve decided I wanted to share a little bit about my new endeavors with y’all. Let’s hop in, shall we?
Lessons I Learned as an Entrepreneur
Having a routine is a must
When going from a 9-5 job to being self-employed, you’re going to experience a little bit of a shock at first. You’re going to feel like you have all this freedom and while that may be true, you need to still treat your new employment status as you would a traditional job. You need to have some sort of schedule instead of doing things all willy-nilly.
Diversify your income
When you’re self-employed, you need to find ways to diversify your income so you’re not relying just on sponsored posts or services that you may offer. Personally, I have several streams of income between this blog and Confetti Social. Those are sponsored posts, affiliate marketing, social media services, and soon I will also be offering a few digital products. Because you aren’t receiving a solid paycheck every two weeks, there are going to be times where you’re raking in tons of cash and times when you’re not so it’s important to be prepared for that.
Nothing is guaranteed
In my first month of being self-employed, I relied on some things that didn’t end up panning out, leaving me with a not so stellar first month of running my business full time. I have learned that I can’t count my chickens before they hatch so I always need to have my sights on the future and the things that are for sure instead of banking on something happening that may not end up doing so.
Your Turn:
Are you self-employed? I’d love to know some of the lessons you learned during your first few months. Feel free to let me know down in the comments.
