Now that I actually have a somewhat consistent schedule during the weekdays, I thought it’d be fun to share a little look into my typical work day aka a day in the life. Now of course, there are some activities that don’t happen on a daily basis that I’ve left out, but generally this is a typical day at my job. I am the marketing assistant/social media coordinator for a retail management company so a lot of my day consists of social media and general marketing activities. Now onto a day in the life.
A Day in the Life
6:30 am- Wake up // So for the most part, I try to get up with my first alarm but sometimes I’ll postpone my wake up time until 6:45. Then I can still get ready in more than enough time, but my morning “me” time is then cut down a little.
6:30-7:00 am Get ready // So most of the time I have to drag myself to the bathroom and begin this process. It actually doesn’t take me this long usually. Most of the time I can wash my face, apply my makeup, and get dressed in 15 minutes…but I allotted myself a little extra time for those mornings that I am just completely dragging.
7-7:10 am Respond to emails // So during this 10 minute frame, I’ll usually check all my emails from my blog email and respond to them and then go through my personal email’s inbox as well.
7:10-7:35 am – Comment on blogs // I like to go and comment on some blogs/read some blogs in the morning before heading out to work. It’s kind of like my morning “me” time ritual.
7:35 am – Pack my lunch // This is when I pack my lunch, load the dishwasher, and do whatever else I need to do before heading out the door for the day.
7:40 am- Leave for work // Since I do have a bit of commute, to get to work by 8:30, I need to leave by 7:40-7:45 each day.
7:45-8:25 am – Commute // During my fun commute I catch up on podcasts and try to not get too anxious or frustrated with all the traffic and people around me.
8:30 am – Arrive at work // I typically get in the building no later than 8:30 am. From there I head to my office and start booting up my computer and all of that good stuff.
8:30-8:45 am – Check email and prepare for the day // This is when I check my to-do list for both the day and week and see what needs to be accomplished by when. I also check my work email and respond when necessary.
8:45-10 am – Work on social media // Right now I have the next three months worth of social media planned out but that doesn’t mean I stop looking for opportunities to post more. I usually go down and speak to some of the stores and get them to tell me their upcoming promotions so that I can feature them on our social media pages.
10-11 am – Engage with followers // This is when I sit down and look for new people to follow, retweet some relevant things, and engage with customers by responding to their questions, comments, or concerns.
11:30 am-12:30 pm – Update website // I am consistently adding new things to the website whether it’s sales, employment opportunities, or events so I take an hour or so each day making sure that this is updated.
12:30-1:00 pm – Lunch Break // This is when I take my lunch break. Sometimes I’ll eat in our break room and other times I will eat at my desk and peruse the Internet and my social media sites.
1:00-2:30 pm – Work on weekly newsletter // Each Friday I send out a newsletter to the tenants updating them on all the happenings each week through the mall so I add a little more to this each day. I know it says I do this for an hour and a half but normally I spend about 30 minutes to an hour each day working on this so come Thursday, it’s ready to be proofed by my boss.
4:30-4:45 – Schedule social media for the next day & make my to-do list// Today I actually scheduled my social media for the full week and next Monday even, but normally I’ll sit down and do this before leaving each day just to make sure I am not forgetting anything and to add in any extra promotions that I may have gotten that day. I also make my to-do list for the following day so I know what I need to do immediately when I get in the next day.
I get off at 5 and then head home for a night of relaxing…or in my case doing homework for my graduate school class (stats…bleh) or blogging. This is just a typical day in the life.
I hope you enjoyed this little look into a day in the life for me. I actually thoroughly enjoyed going through my schedule and making this post for you guys.
